The Sites
There are presently only four undisturbed or partially intact Native American sites that have been found within center city Philadelphia. None of these sites have produced large quantities of artifacts, or generated spectacular new information about the Native peoples who once lived here, but they do prove that such sites have survived intensive historical development, and encourage us that other sites might eventually be discovered. Beyond that, they are important because they tell us how such fragile sites have survived in the city, and let us know the kinds of places within the cityscape where new sites might be found.
