SugarHouse Casino Project, Fishtown/Kensington Area

The firm of A.D. Marble, Inc. is currently conducting archaeological investigations of the proposed location of the SugarHouse Casino, in the Fishtown/Kensington section of the city. To date there have been two reports issued regarding the findings of those investigations. The Phase IA report presents preliminary historical context and background research for the casino project area, as well as the results and interpretations of initial geomorphological testing. This geomorphological testing was designed to evaluate the degree to which this site has been disturbed by previous construction, and to identify areas within the site where intact archaeological resources are most likely to be located. The Phase IB report presents the findings from initial archaeological testing within the site and identifies areas within the property where additional, more intensive excavations have been recommended. As stated above, these investigations are still underway and reports of further findings from the site will be posted as they become available.
Note: the reports posted here are black and white scans of the original documents; consequently the included photos and maps are reproduced in a rather poor quality. Full color PDF files of these reports have been requested and will replace these documents as soon as they are available.
